HEATED RIVALRY
Review Scores (how we rate) Watch trailer →
An adaptation of Rachael Reid’s beloved romance novel into a glossy, very sexy sports drama that unfolds over years. It’s sexy, emotionally tense, occasionally messy, and absolutely knows why you’re here.
He Said / She Said
“Whoo! Is it hot in here or is it just me?! This is exactly what it promises to be: a romance novel brought to life, sweat, tension, bad decisions and all. Episodes one and two feel rushed, sure, but once the show slows down and lets the characters breathe, it’s addictive. Ilya is magnetic, the chemistry is real, and by episode three I was fully hooked.”
“For a show about hockey players there isn’t much hockey. I found the interactions between the two main characters felt forced and uncomfortable. They both are good actors, but it just didn’t work for me. Too many horny looks and not enough dialogue.”
Critical reception (so far)
- Critics generally praise the chemistry, performances, and emotional depth in the central relationship.
- Some reviews call the early pacing uneven and the first episode structurally rushed.
- Major outlets highlight the show’s cultural impact, citing its lean into intimacy and representation.
- Not every critic loves the heavy focus on sexuality over plot in the first episodes.
What it’s about
Two newly professional hockey players: Ilya, a bold and unapologetically confident Russian star, and Shane, a quieter, more guarded Canadian rival, meet early in their careers and fall into a secret, on-again-off-again relationship that spans multiple seasons, cities, and personal milestones.
Overall vibe
Mostly sexy. Occasionally tense. Quietly sad beneath the gloss.
