Last updated: November 2025

1. Who We Are

The Show Hole (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is an independent streaming review site based in Ontario, Canada. We watch the first few episodes of TV shows and publish spoiler-light reviews, recommendations, and related content to help visitors decide what to watch next.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share personal information when you visit theshowhole.tv (the “Site”), interact with our content, or contact us.

Our practices are intended to comply with applicable Canadian privacy laws, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and any relevant provincial legislation in Ontario.

2. Information We Collect

We collect a limited amount of personal information, mainly to run the Site, understand how it’s used, and communicate with readers who choose to hear from us.

2.1 Information you provide directly

  • Contact forms and email. If you contact us (for example, through a contact form or by email), we collect the information you choose to provide, such as your name, email address, and the contents of your message.
  • Newsletter or updates (if enabled). If you sign up for a newsletter or similar updates, we collect your email address and any preferences you provide.
  • Comments or feedback (if enabled). If we enable comments or feedback features, we may collect your name, email address, and the content you post.

2.2 Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we automatically collect certain technical information when you visit the Site. This may include:

  • IP address and approximate location (based on IP).
  • Browser type, device type, and operating system.
  • Pages you visit, time spent on pages, and how you found the Site (referring URLs).
  • Date and time of your visit and basic interaction data (clicks, scrolls, etc.).

We typically collect this through cookies, log files, and similar technologies, often via third-party analytics tools (such as Google Analytics or a comparable privacy-focused service).

2.3 Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device to help us remember your preferences and understand how people use the Site. We may use:

  • Essential cookies – required for basic site functionality and security.
  • Analytics cookies – to understand how visitors use the Site and to improve our content and layout.
  • Preference cookies – to remember things like your cookie settings or previously used filters.

You can usually manage or disable cookies through your browser settings. Please note that blocking certain cookies may affect how the Site functions.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To operate, maintain, and improve the Site and our content.
  • To respond to your questions, requests, or feedback.
  • To send you newsletters or updates you have specifically opted in to receive (you can unsubscribe at any time).
  • To monitor site performance, detect technical issues, and keep the Site secure.
  • To understand what content resonates with readers so we can create more helpful reviews and guides.
  • To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes.

We do not sell your personal information. If we ever introduce advertising or affiliate links, we will update this policy and clearly label such content on the Site.

4. Legal Bases & Your Consent

Because we are based in Canada, we primarily rely on your consent and our legitimate interests to collect and use personal information:

  • We rely on your consent when you voluntarily provide information (e.g., signing up for a newsletter or submitting a contact form).
  • We rely on legitimate interests to operate and secure the Site, understand usage patterns, and improve our content in ways that we believe are low-risk and respectful of your privacy.

You may withdraw your consent at any time for activities that are based on consent (for example, by unsubscribing from emails or contacting us to request deletion of your information where feasible).

5. When We Share Your Information

We only share personal information in limited circumstances:

  • Service providers. We may use carefully chosen third-party providers to host the Site, send email, or provide analytics. These providers may process limited personal information on our behalf and are expected to protect it appropriately.
  • Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, court order, or government request, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
  • Business changes. If we ever undergo a reorganization, merger, or similar change, personal information may be transferred as part of that process, subject to applicable privacy laws.

We do not sell personal information to data brokers or third parties.

6. Data Storage & International Transfers

The Site may be hosted on servers located in Canada, the United States, or other jurisdictions. In addition, some of the third-party services we use may store or process information in other countries.

This means your information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions, which can differ from the laws in Ontario or elsewhere in Canada. We aim to work with providers that take appropriate steps to protect your information.

7. How Long We Keep Your Information

We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. For example:

  • Contact form messages may be kept while we manage your inquiry and for a reasonable period afterward.
  • Newsletter email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or we discontinue the mailing list.
  • Analytics data is typically kept for a limited time in aggregated or de-identified form.

When personal information is no longer needed, we will securely delete, anonymize, or otherwise de-identify it where feasible.

8. Your Privacy Rights

As a resident of Canada (including Ontario), you have certain rights in relation to your personal information, subject to legal limits. These may include the right to:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request corrections if that information is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Withdraw consent for certain uses, such as marketing emails.
  • Ask us to delete information where it is no longer required for the purposes we collected it (subject to legal obligations).

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details in the Contact Us section below. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests.

If you have unresolved concerns, you may also have the right to complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, where applicable, the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.

9. Children’s Privacy

The Show Hole is intended for adults and older teens who are choosing what to watch on streaming platforms. Our content often discusses mature TV shows (including horror and thrillers) and is not designed for children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it where appropriate.

10. Third-Party Links & Streaming Services

Our Site includes links to third-party websites and streaming platforms such as Netflix, Crave, Prime Video, Apple TV+, or others. These sites are not operated or controlled by us, and their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.

We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites or services you visit through our links, especially before signing in or sharing personal information with them.

11. Email, Newsletters & Canadian Anti-Spam Law (CASL)

If we send newsletters or other promotional emails, we do so in accordance with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). You will only receive such communications if you:

  • Explicitly subscribe or opt in; or
  • Otherwise have a relationship with us that permits such communication under CASL.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link in our emails or by contacting us directly.

12. How We Protect Your Information

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information against loss, theft, unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse. However, no website or online service can guarantee complete security.

If we become aware of a breach involving your personal information that poses a real risk of significant harm, we will take appropriate steps to notify you and any relevant authorities in accordance with applicable laws.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we do, we will adjust the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. In the case of material changes, we may also provide a more prominent notice on the Site.
