Poster for Countdown

Countdown throws a group of law-enforcement misfits into a newly formed task force in a race to stop missing nuclear material from being used in a larger attack.

He Said / She Said

SHE SAID
3.5 / 10

“It’s fast, macho, and tries really hard to make the team look tough and cool right out of the gate … and it mostly made me roll my eyes. The premise should feel urgent, but the characters stayed surface-level, and even by Episode 3 I wasn’t hooked. The eye candy that is Jensen Ackles is the main draw… but beyond that, I just didn’t care enough.”

HE SAID
4.0 / 10

“It’s basically a slick, fluffy action procedural with a misfit-team vibe. Jensen Ackles has great screen presence, but the nuclear-terror angle never feels as tense as it should. It’s easy to throw on in the background, but not something that demands your full attention.”

Critical reception (so far)

Reviews have been mixed overall. Some critics appreciate the cast and the familiar “task force of misfits” energy, but many feel the show doesn’t bring much new to the genre. The central nuclear-threat premise hasn’t landed with the urgency or depth some expected.

While the action scenes move quickly, the broader story arc develops slowly, making the show feel more procedural than high-stakes thriller.

What it’s about

After a Department of Homeland Security officer is murdered, a new task force made up of skilled but sidelined agents is formed to track down the killer. As they dig deeper, they uncover a larger threat involving smuggled nuclear material, and must race to identify who’s behind it before it’s too late.

Overall vibe

Glossy, action-forward, and slightly over-the-top. It wants to be gritty and tense, but the humor and one-liners undercut the seriousness of the threat. The incident-of-the-week pacing is quick, but the overarching arc feels slower and less urgent than the title suggests.
